How to Set Intentions and Actually Build Your Dream Life

Watch above, or listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Everyone sets goals in January. Most fade by February. I spent five years figuring out who I am, and rebuilding myself in the process. This is the heart behind my 2026 Goals and Intentions Guide and the mindset practices that actually changed my life and built House of Undine. The secret is not motivation. It is something quieter, and I save my real take for the episode.

How do you start setting intentions for the year?

You start by looking back, not forward. Reflection comes first. Ask what went well, what did not, what you want to bring forward and what you want to leave behind. Be honest, not mean to yourself. Some things you leave behind are not failures. They simply served you for a season and stopped. You cannot create clarity without reflection. That is the whole foundation.

What actually helps you get clear on what you want?

Open, unfiltered journaling. Sit down for ten minutes and write whatever comes, no editing, no censoring, no pausing. You will be surprised what surfaces. Then read it back and notice what you were too scared to write down. That hesitation is information. It points straight at where you limit yourself, and that is exactly where the work begins.

How do you deal with limiting beliefs?

You flip them. The thoughts that say not good enough, not for someone like me, too unrealistic. Those are your self worth talking, and they hold you back more than anything outside you. For every limiting belief, write the opposing affirmation in your own words. Make it personal. Make it believable. Then say it daily. Affirmations are one of the most life changing things I ever did. For every negative thought you need three to five positive ones to counter it, because the negative ones pull harder.

Do vision boards really work?

They do, if you are specific. Vague dreams produce vague results. Treat your vision board as a serious meeting with yourself, not a magazine collage. Find the exact image of the life you want and print that one. Keep it visible. Use envy as information. If something triggers jealousy in you, that is usually a desire pointing you home. This is a solo adventure, so be honest. It should feel like you on paper.

What matters more, motivation or discipline?

Action. Big dreams require small consistent steps. Dream as big as you want, then lower the barrier to entry so you actually show up. Confidence is built by completing small manageable tasks, not by waiting to feel ready. Outcomes follow your identity. Who you believe you are is how you move through the world. Consistency wins every time, and perfection is where dreams go to die.

Quick questions

How do I set intentions that actually stick?

Start with reflection, get clear through open journaling, flip your limiting beliefs into affirmations, then take small consistent action. The full walkthrough is in the episode.

Do affirmations actually work?

They reframed my whole baseline. Say them daily in your own words, and remember you need three to five positive thoughts to counter one negative one.

How do I make a vision board that works?

Be specific and keep it visible. Print the exact images of the life you want, not random cutouts, and make sure it lights you up.
